Bread, and roses —
what the women asked for
outside the mills
Le four à pain II is an oil painting. Built in stones and bricks of ochre, brown and cream, the opening of a bread oven fills the canvas, with its blackened interior.
The bread oven lies at the heart of “Tcharendar”, the day of bread, a moment that returns regularly in the economy of rural life. Sébastien Bonin makes it a recurring motif: what matters is not the event but the repetition around it.
